One Word

I’m running for re-election with the candidates who did the work of the last three years. We agree on one word for where the Village has been going, and where it needs to keep going: professionalism.

Not a slogan on a mailer. The work on the agenda. Professionalism is as professionalism does.

What We Inherited

For most of its history, the Village ran on insider politics, a business model that stopped working years ago and a habit of fighting everyone. There was no sustainable long-term plan. Policies sat frozen in time. And there was a blind spot about how the Village is actually paid for.

Some people spent the last three years critiquing from the audience. We spent them doing the work.

Professionalism

Before: A deputy clerk appointed outside the law. Required positions left vacant for years. Reporting lines nobody could draw.

Now: A lawful Clerk, a Building and Zoning Officer, a professional Administrator with clear supervisory authority, professional accounting and treasury, and a stable police department.

Planning

Before: No sustainable long-term plan, and no funding source for roads.

Now: A new Comprehensive Plan, a dedicated road revenue source, grant-funded road reconstruction and about 15% of Village roads on track for paving. New development pays its own way.

Policy

Before: Building codes from 2012, when they should be updated every three to six years. A zoning ordinance with no zoning map.

Now: Building codes current to 2024 as FEMA requires, a zoning map, no permit needed for most repair and replacement work, and Village meetings recorded and posted.

Blind Spot

Before: The money the State shares with the Village began shrinking in 2011. Leadership stuck with the 2007 model anyway, and roads paid the price.

Now: We budget for the revenue the Village actually gets, and we found new ways to pay for roads.
